HIKING : Coyote Crossing Resort offers over 55 acres of beautiful forest for your hiking pleasure. We are completely surrounded by 1,000’s of more acres of the Manistee National Forest ready for exploring. We are a short drive from the Manistee River Trail.

MANISTEE RIVER TRAIL - The foot travel only trail runs for approximately 12 miles through the heart of the Manistee National Forest. Along the trail, hikers can experience spectacular views of the Manistee River valley, boardwalks across the low wetlands areas, an eight foot high waterfall flowing from a spring fed brook and a unique arch timber bridge crossing Slagle Creek. Cost: Free. Travel time to trail - 12 min.


CROSS COUNTRY SKIING & MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS: Coyote Crossing is only a few minutes from two of Michigan’s most scenic cross-country ski and mountain bike trails.

MACKENZIE CROSS-COUNTRY SKI AND MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL - This trail is an outstanding Nordic trail set in the beautiful hardwood forest adjacent to the Caberfae Ski Resort. The trail system is approximately 10 miles in length with loop combinations of varying lengths available for all levels of cross-country enthusiasts. There is ski rental available at Caberfae Ski Resort. Cost: Free. Travel time to trail - 5 minutes

BIG M CROSS-COUNTRY SKI AND MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL - This trail is approximately 18 miles in length and offers a variety of terrain to challenge every experience level. The trails are groomed by a non-profit group in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. Cost: Free. Travel time to trail - 12 minutes


CANOEING & FISHING: Coyote Crossing is only a few miles from the Pine River, Michigan’s premiere canoeing and fishing river which flows over 60 miles through the Manistee National Forest. The Pine has many sharp bends, short choppy rifles and a section with class 2 white water rapids. Coyote Crossing offers canoeing or fishing trip packages, including lodging, canoe rental, and even a box lunch for your picnic stop along the river. (Note: The river is very busy during the summer weekends and reservations should be made early.)

DOBSON BRIDGE ACCESS - Has canoe and fishing access, drinking water, picnic area and toilets. Cost: Permit Required. Travel time - 5 minutes

ELM FLATS ACCESS - Has canoe and fishing access, drinking water, picnic area and toilets. Cost: Permit Required. Travel time - 10 minutes

FALL COLOR TOUR: Coyote Crossing is situated on over 55 acres of dense hardwoods and pines and totally surrounded by the Manistee National Forest. You can enjoy the fall colors by walking around the grounds or driving on one of 4-mapped color tours. Each of the tours can be accessed directly from Coyote Crossing Resort and we can supply the maps, lunch and sodas for the trip, then return to Coyote Crossing and enjoy dinner at our Bar & Grill.

MOREL MUSHROOM HUNTING:Coyote Crossing is in the middle of prime Morel mushroom hunting. We offer complete mushroom hunting packages which run from April through June, with May being the prime Morel mushroom picking time of year. Morels, can be found where leaves that fell in autumn have become compacted and just beginning to dry out. They are often found in beech-maple forests, oak woods and around elm stumps. Cost: Free. Travel Time: 0


BICYCLE TOURING: Coyote Crossing has direct access to 100’s of miles of lightly traveled black top roads for bicycle touring. We can supply a map and suggest a course to enjoy the beautiful Manistee National Forest. Coyote Crossing also has a 1/2 mile oval asphalt roadway for bicycles, roller blading, walking and jogging.


CASINO: Coyote Crossing is only a 30-minute drive from Little River Casino in Manistee. We also have coupon books for discounts on meals and activities at the casino. Coyote Crossing can customize a gambling/lodging package.


SNOWMOBILING: Cadillac is known as “Michigan’s Snowmobile Capitol” and Coyote Crossing has direct access to over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails (Click for Snowmobile map). You can park your sled right in front of your cabin and ride anywhere from there. We have the areas only guided snowmobile trails, where we can take you on a guided tour, while you drive one of our sleds. We can also make arrangements for rental sleds brought right to your cabin. Cadillac is host of the North American Snowmobile Festival, where every year, 15,000 snowmobilers enjoy a sno-cross race, fireworks, entertainment, time trials and a poker run. Coyote Crossing can arrange a custom snowmobile/lodging package.


SLEIGH RIDES: Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All The Way... a snow-packed trail, riding under frosted pines and hardwoods becomes a breathtaking experience In a horse-drawn sleigh. HORSEBACK RIDING: There are miles of beautiful trails to enjoy in the Manistee National Forest. Guided horseback riding will help you remember long-forgotten skills or help you master new ones. HAYRIDES: Color touring on a hay wagon brings up memories from times past and creates new memories for your children, In season, the National Forest offers miles of beautiful forest trails lined on both sides with hardwoods brillant with colors. DOWNHILL SKIING: Coyote Crossing is the closest lodging to Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort. Caberfae Peaks boasts the highest slopes in the Midwest and runs over 3/4 mile in length. We have ski/lodging packages, along with discount lift tickets for guests. Cost: lift ticket. Travel Time: 5 minutes


LAKE MICHIGAN: The shoreline of Lake Michigan has beautiful sandy beaches and top rate sport fishing. Coyote crossing is only a 35-minute drive away from the City of Manistee and the shores of Lake Michigan. We have maps available for parks, beach and shopping areas. We can also prepare a picnic lunch for the trip.


CHARTER FISHING (LAKE MICHIGAN): Coyote Crossing has made arrangements with charter fishing guides in Manistee. We can arrange charter fishing/lodging packages.
